When God placed the dream to start Cloudbreak Church in my heart, it was a surprise, because during my twenties I didn’t even go to church.
I always claimed to be a Christian, but put everything else ahead of knowing God. Jesus changed all that in 2001, when he called my wife Shelly and I into ministry. I was working in the apparel business and our family lived in Puebla, Mexico. We thought life was pretty good. Little did we know God had a much greater adventure in store.
We moved back to the States, where I finished a Masters of Divinity in Church Planting from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. I am currently working on a Doctorate of Ministry at Golden Gate Baptist Seminary.
By the way, Shelly and I met when we were twelve years old and she is my best friend. We are both Southern California natives and have two kids (Ally - 12 and Jack - 10). Shelly has a teaching background and attended UCSB. I did my undergrad work at University of Georgia earning a degree in International Business.
After finishing seminary, God called us back to Southern California where we grew up to start Cloudbreak. God is working in amazing ways as the people of Cloudbreak serve our community, and provide a safe place for those with questions about faith to explore what Jesus offers.
Shelly and I are both active people who enjoy making new friends. We think God made this big world so people would go see it. I love to surf and can’t get enough college football. We love family events with the people of Cloudbreak, and can’t wait to meet your family.
When God called us to serve Cloudbreak, I was reading in the New Testament book of Colossians. I want to share the verses with you that means so much to me:
2 Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.
3 For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.
4 When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.

Colossians 3:1-4 (ESV)
1 If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.2 Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.
3 For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.
4 When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.

I graduated from UCSD with a degree in bioengineering and worked in the medical device industry for several years. In 1999, I felt God calling me to help start a pregnancy resource center to bring hope and love to women in crisis pregnancies.
In 2000, Turning Point Pregnancy Resource Center opened its doors, and I have been very involved with this ministry ever since. I am also very busy as a mother of three sons.
I don’t like the term “stay-at-home mom” because I never seem to be at home. When I’m not working at home on the computer, I am driving carpools, watching baseball or soccer games, volunteering in the classrooms, working at a band event or grocery shopping. My favorite thing about living in 4S Ranch is seeing familiar faces wherever I go.

I was lucky enough to move to the San Diego area over a decade ago, when my husband’s work transferred us here from Chicago. Though we lived in Chicago for several years, both my husband and I are from the Philadelphia area.
I’m originally a classically trained singer, but feel like I found yet another calling when I became a wife and mom. Working with children and helping them learn about God is incredibly fulfilling. What could be more important?

I am a native Southern Californian, born and raised in San Bernardino. I got
my undergraduate degree at the University of Redlands and graduate degrees
at Michigan State University in Physics. I met my wife at MSU and we have
two children (Jackie - Cloudbreak's Communication/Finance Coordinator and
Gary - a professor at USC) and five grandchildren. Five years ago, I came
back to San Diego after ten years in Virginia.
I enjoy teaching the Bible to a wide variety of age groups, from youth to senior adults. My special area of biblical interest and expertise is in creation science. I have served in a number of churches over the years both in leadership positions and in ministering to people.

My wife Sherry and I have been married 25 years and have three children, Philip (21), Sarah (18) and Ian (14). We were all happy to arrive in San Diego about 2-1/2 years ago, where we can enjoy the ocean and the great outdoors all year 'round! We have always enjoyed meeting people from everywhere, and thanks to my engineering and management career in electronics manufacturing, we've had the privilege to live in Indiana, Michigan, New York, Texas, Germany, the Netherlands, and England. We have always been involved in ministry and missions, and we feel richly blessed to have experienced life with so many different believers in God's kingdom all over the world.
My favorite ministry experience (so far) was leading an English-speaking Bible study for international students at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands back in 1995. (I was there to complete my masters degrees in industrial engineering and business administration - M. Eng. & MBA - as an exchange student from Cornell University. I also have an electrical engineering degree from Kettering University.) Sherry and I became the "parents" of this small international family, and those Dutch, Swedish, Danish and Australian students became like big brothers and sisters to our young children. Since then, I have enjoyed leading many small groups and Bible studies, as well as serving in music ministry and short-term missions. Since 2007, I have been providing business training and development assistance to indigenous missionaries in Peru, South America, to improve the economic sustainability of their ministry -- training pastors and spreading God's word in Peru and the Amazon region.
The first time we walked into Cloudbreak Church we felt at home. The more we get to know the people of this church family, the more we love being a part of it and seeing it grow!

I'm a student at San Diego Christian College where I am studying diligently for my Bachelor's degree in Biblical Studies. Above all else though, I am a passionate follower of Jesus Christ, called by God to perform His will. As each day passes, I see more and more of His plan for my life unravel. I must say in response that I am more than in awe of where His loving hands are guiding me.
I have a passion for youth ministry and I absolutely love teaching the kids here at Cloudbreak about the Word. I also have a love for music, film, and the outdoors.
